Psychedelic Preparation & Integration Therapy in Barcelona
I support people preparing for and integrating psychedelic experiences. This work is grounded in my clinical background in developmental trauma, and in my training with IPI (Integrative Psychiatry Institute) and ETI (Experiential Training Institute). My role is what happens around that experience, before and after. I offer this work individually, in person in Barcelona or online.
Talk therapy can take you far. It can help you understand where something comes from, how a pattern formed, what you'd want instead. But understanding isn't always the same as experiencing something different. There are places we can't fully reach through words alone. Maybe because we've built too many walls to get there with another person, or because we've built them against ourselves, inside our own unconscious mind.
This is where I think psychedelics like MDMA or psilocybin offer something therapy alone often can't. They lower resistance. They open access to compassion, even toward the parts of ourselves we've spent years defending against. And they let us live an experience, not just talk about one.
In a session, you might realize you're repeating an old pattern, for example people-pleasing, criticizing yourself, shutting down, controlling the internal process or understanding your attachment style. Now, instead of just naming it and feeling it the way you would in classic therapy, the psychedelic can open the space for a healing experience instead. You could feel yourself do something different, change your train of thought, experience it differently, all while the old pattern is still happening. You could also create and actually live a scene you never got to have, a scene you've consciously or unconsciously been longing for. An example could be a hug from both parents you never received, or a last conversation before someone you loved passed away, and you would feel it fully enough that it becomes a real memory. Not a metaphor for one. Something the body holds onto, the same way it holds anything that actually happened. And this can change so many things in your internal structure.
Preparation
Preparation isn't one conversation. It's a process that moves through different layers. On the conscious level, we clarify what you actually want to explore or work through. On the emotional level, we look at fear, apprehension, or expectations that run too high or too specific… the kind that quietly shapes an experience from the background if nobody names them first. And physically, we work on staying grounded in the body and navigating inward safely, so you're prepared not just for the experience you're hoping for, but for whatever intensity actually shows up.
Preparation sessions may include:
- Clarifying intentions and what you hope to work through
- Checking whether the experience makes sense for you, health-wise and in terms of setting
- Addressing fears, apprehensions, or expectations that could otherwise shape things unconsciously
- Nervous system regulation, breathing work, and grounding practices, in other words tools you can actually return to if intensity arises
- Building a felt sense of safety on every level: cognitive, emotional, physical
- Getting familiar with the parts of yourself that might surface during the experience, it can be the ones you want to meet, or the ones you're wary of. This is an IFS-based work to build a more trusting relationship with them before you go in
Integration
Integration comes after. We come back to what happened and work through it. We don't rush to decide what it meant, but actually sit with what surfaced until it settles into something usable. That material doesn't always stay in one place. Something that started as an image or a thought can end up needing to be processed in the body, or the other way around. When that's the case, I bring in tools like IFS or EMDR to make sure nothing gets left half-processed.
Integration sessions may include:
- Making sense of what surfaced, without forcing it into a conclusion too soon
- Processing emotional or somatic material, with IFS or EMDR when it's useful
- Turning insight into something that actually changes daily life, instead of fading into a memory
- Continued support if what came up was more complex, or more destabilizing, than expected
How many sessions, and how they're paced, depends on what you need. Some people need one session before or after something planned. Others need several, working through something that surfaced with real weight.
Who This Is For
Three kinds of people tend to reach out.
You don't need to have committed to anything to reach out.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to have a psychedelic experience already planned to start this work?
No. Some people come with something already scheduled, others come afterward to make sense of something that already happened, and others come earlier just to think it through. All three are welcome.
What if what came up during my experience felt too intense or overwhelming to process alone?
That's exactly what integration sessions are for. If something surfaced that feels too big to sit with on your own, we can work through it talking together and working with tools like somatic work, IFS or EMDR when useful. We will take the time to go at whatever pace you need.
How many sessions do I need?
It depends entirely on what you're working with. Some people need a single session before or after a planned experience, others need several. It is not really possible to answer beforehand especially when there's more complex material to prepare for or process. We figure out the right pace together, not on a fixed schedule.
What can you do to help make sure my experience is safe?
Safety isn't one thing, so preparation looks at it from several angles. That includes checking in on your health and any medications you're taking, since these can matter a lot depending on what you're planning. It also means looking at your relationship with your body and your emotional patterns, so we know what to expect from you under intensity, not just in theory. Psychoeducation is part of it too. We will take the time to understand what you're actually likely to experience, physically and psychologically, so nothing catches you off guard. And there's simply space for every question you have, however small or specific, before you go in.
